Scope of Forestry in India

Forestry is defined as the science or practice of planting, managing, conserving and maintaining forests and its associated resources with the aim to meets the goal of human benefit .”


 A practitioner of forestry is known as a Forester.


Job role of Forester

·       They are involved in many activities that include ecological restoration, timber harvesting, and protection of natural resources.
·       Their role exists in choosing sites for new trees.
·       They are also involved in the planning and supervising of forestry projects.
·       Promote a sustainable economy through renewable forest products.

Courses & Programmes

Various courses are available in the field of forestry. One can pursue forestry courses at graduate, postgraduate, diploma as well as at Ph.D. level.
Bachelor’s Courses
·      B.Sc. in Forestry
·       B.Sc in Wildlife
·       Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Tree Improvement and Genetic Resources
·       Bachelor of Science (B.Sc-Hons) in Forestry

Eligibility Criteria – If you have passed your intermediate examination with PCB group then you are eligible for this course. The duration of B.Sc forestry professional course is 4 years

·       M.Sc – Wood Science & Tech.
·       Master of Science (M.Sc) in Agroforestry
·       Master of Science (M.Sc) in Forest Products

Eligibility Criteria – To be eligible for master’s course, one must have a bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline. The duration of this course is 2 years.

    This is just a small contribution from my end towards the most important and valuable sector i.e. Forests which actually holds a major sector and plays pivotal role of our environment and ecosystem. This article shares basic information about the premier institute which is giving its services since more than a century in empowering knowledge and conducting research in sector of forestry.
